Pizza Mania!: VSports’ Peking Duck Pizza is Well Worth Adding to Your Foodie Bucket List

Scallions, cucumbers, and duck slathered on top of a pizza pie? You’re probably thinking: fusion confusion, right? Well, an intrepid foodie would differ … in fact, the mere thought of blending the capital’s most recognizable traditional dish with one of the Beijinger’s favorite foods, is enough to make me (a responsible connoisseur of offbeat and alternative cuisine) want to recommend it on the sheer notion of cultural appreciation alone! Luckily however, I don’t have to, as VSports’ rendition of the Peking duck pizza, isn’t just edible, it’s downright LUH-JIT! (As proven by our very own Tom Arnstein, who offered the experimental pie to taste-tasting laobaixing in our new Nov/Dec issue.)

VSports’ Peking duck pizza goes beyond expectations in part due to their housemade duck sauce. I mean, let’s be honest, using something as unconventional as sweet bean sauce, in lieu of tomato paste, is hair-raising; and having that same taste complement cheese (the most divinely important aspect of any pizza pie) is almost inconceivable. VSports, however, makes this avant-garde duck dish definitely worth sampling, and although it might not be geared toward everyone’s liking, it’s still one of the freshest pizza-concepts we’ve had since Baozza hit the scene.

Furthermore, the Gongti establishment, which also happens to be one of Beijing’s most overlooked, features other experimental pies. These include the bolognese pizza (which is must-try if you enjoy rich, tomatoey meat), as well as the entire spectrum of more traditional pies, from the plain margarita to the bacon and onion to the Hawaiian.

Getting your pizza action is best done on Tuesdays, as that's when all of VSports' pies go for a very reasonable RMB 40. And if you're worried about your winter figure, you can either burn some serious calories getting fired up by yelling at one of the bar's many screens, or actually do some exercise playing foosball or shooting hoops in their back games area. It's a win-win for all.
