Kipp's Picks: Club Paradise, Imperial Star Ship Party, Trekkie Trax, and Australia Day at 8-Bit

Get ready to end the Lunar New Year with a bang, before everyone and we mean everyone embarks on the most massive migration on the planet. Here are our favorite events of the week, filled with enough dirty dancing and delicious drinks to help you prepare for this impending departure.

Jan 22: Club Paradise Winter Heat
These party monsters probably have our favorite DJ names in the city. Seriously though, with names like Ted Dancin', Bass Ventura, and Gary Boozy, who wouldn’t want to rage the night away with this fun-loving crew of tropical dance music aficionados. After a raucous NYE party Club Paradise these fun loving gents return to Modernista for another night full of drunken mayhem. Free. 10pm. Modernista

Jan 23: Xian Bar Hosts an Imperial Star Ship Party
Xian Bar will have an Imperial Star Ship party on January 23, where the head of Beijing’s 501st Legion – which is self described as “a worldwide Star Wars costuming organization comprised of and operated by Star Wars fans” – will be on hand to answer any and all trivia questions by fellow geeks hoping to stump him for various prizes. Free. 10pm. Xian Bar

Jan 23: S!LK Presents Trekkie Trax
Make sure to check out this Tokyo-based collective of producers, DJs, and live artists as they bring you an out of this world audio/visual adventure that will likely cause you to devolve and mutate into an iridescent mush on the dancefloor, pulsating and ejecting gasses to footwork beats created by these progressive trendsetters. RMB 50. 10pm. Dada

Jan 23: Cooking Class
Come and join Tang’s master chefs as they cook up an evening of delicious beats. DJs Kitchen, Rhom Omit, and Crystal Bones will be cranking up the heat and the volume for a dance party to remember. Be prepared for multiple courses of slow -cooked electro, marinated house, deep fried funk, and a bit of techno spice to link everything together. Free. 10pm. Tang

Jan 26: Australia Day at 8-Bit
Aussie/Chinese-run bar 8-Bit celebrates all things Oz this Tuesday. Enjoy their classic meat pies, Victoria Bitter beer, Vegemite with toast, and drink specials all across the board. They will also be blasting Triple J’s top 100 on the stereo system to make the rabble of Aussie expats feel like they never left their danger-infested motherland. Don’t miss an authentic, no-frills extravaganza straight from the land down under. Free. 6pm. 8-Bit
