Successful Completion of the POSCO Center: Creating a High-Quality Business Life with Its Human-Oriented Ideals

As the first speaker of the completion ceremony, the President of Beijing POSCO Center Kam Gyu-sik extended his warm welcome and sincere thanks to all the distinguished guests for their presence, and mainly gave a summary report of the POSCO Center. He pointed out, “The POSCO Center attaches importance to the harmony, unity and coexistence among architecture, nature and humanity in design. It employs green building materials and building technologies meeting the requirements of China Green Construction Certificate-3 Stars, the highest level of the building environment certification, not only enabling the Building to operate in an environmentally friendly way with less resources and low carbon, but also providing the settled staff with a healthier work environment. The typical floor is 2.7 meter in net height and 12.5 to 13.5 meter in depth, and the pillar-less lobby’s glass curtain wall with low radiation is designed with the exterior façade which adjusts sunshine amount. All these designs ensure the maximum natural ventilation and lighting in the Building. The settled staff will enjoy sufficient freedom in diversified business and life functional areas and office spaces which can be divided easily and freely. As for the external environment, apart from the main entrance and the external walls of the Building, the sunken garden, lounge garden and rooftop garden enable the settled staff to get close to nature, have a rest and release stress.Its a true humanization-designed building.

 
Kwon Oh-joon, Chairman of POSCO Group, spoke highly of the near perfect POSCO Center many times in terms of its commercial utilization and living comfort. He also awarded a contribution prize to President Kam Gyu-sik and his architectural team in person to show his great appreciation for their outstanding dedication to hard work and the grand building they created. Kwon Oh-joon related, “In Beijing, China, the society and economy is developing continuously; the internationalization is gradually accelerated; enterprises and employees needs become increasingly refined; and favorable policies have been carried out. To keep pace with the times, we have successfully created the POSCO Center which fulfills people’s all desires of an office building as it employs international advanced technologies, provides the settled enterprises and staff with high-quality services as well as comfortable work and living environments, and promotes the images and added values of the settled enterprises. As we have fulfilled the mission, we are fully prepared for the inspection and guidance from people of all circles and the settled enterprises and staff.” He added, “The POSCO Center is a remarkable masterpiece of Pohang Iron and Steel Company in Chinese architecture field. We are committed to setting the new standards of office buildings in the Wangjing area with the POSCO Center over the international operation, injecting vigor and vitality to the development of Beijing. We also aim to make the Center a significant carrier to promote the centralization of the modern service industry and the improvement of its energy level, invigorating and driving Beijing’s economic and social development, urban construction development, international commercial and cultural development, and making new contributions to creating a better life for the people. Meanwhile, we hope that the POSCO Center expands to more cities and regions in China to improve the working quality of enterprise staff and the life standard of neighboring residents.”

 
South Korea's Ambassador to China Kim Jang-soo also conveyed warm congratulations on the completion and operation of the POSCO Center. He uttered, “The POSCO Center is a real perfect Building with the full implementation of greenization, humanization and intelligence. On the location, the POSCO Center is located in the Wangjing business district. On one hand, the Center enjoys a high-quality business environment with a large number of transnational enterprises, hotels and banks as it is in midway between Beijing Capital Airport and the central business district (CBD). On the other hand, the location makes it convenient for the settled staff to travel as the Airport Expressway forms a dimensional transportation network together with several subway lines and over 20 bus routes, realizing the rapid arrival at Beijing Capital Airport, CBD, the Zhongguancun area and the whole city, and avoiding the inconvenience for travel.” In addition, he added, “The POSCO Center has successfully settled in Beijing, the capital of China, and has attracted a large number of well-known domestic and international enterprises to settle in it. This is a success of POSCO Group as well as the sucessful application of the latest construction technologies of South Korea and the human-oriented construction idea in China. Moreover, the Center is a pride of South Korean enterprises. I hope that the POSCO Center keeps giving full play to its advantages to make due contributions to the development of China and South Korea in causes of business, economy, culture and health.” 

As the last speaker in this completion ceremony, Zhou Weimin, Director of Beijing Investment Promotion Bureau, expressed sincere congratulation to the POSCO Center on behalf of Cheng Hong, Deputy Mayor of Beijing.Director Zhou mentioned, “ On facility services, the POSCO Center, with its developed high-tech and intelligent business equipment and living facilities, offers the settled enterprises and staff the most humanized and specialized business and living service spaces with high quality. In addition, the Center is managed by an experienced top international management team, which adopts IBS design and offers international and efficient property services. For example, a unified and systematic management is employed to strengthen the security of enterprises and staff; and an intelligent parking system ensures sufficient parking space as well as the absolute security of staff both driving and riding to work. Besides, the health of the settled staff is guaranteed by its adoption of systems including a solar system supplying heat, an ice thermal storage system producing ice for storage at night and utilizing it for air conditioning during the day, variable air volume (VAV) air conditioning, a CO2 automatic regulatory system, a temperature and humidity automatic control system as well as a sunlight lighting system. The full equipment care considerately for the health of staff.” Zhou also stated, “The POSCO Center enjoys such absolute advantages of advanced and unique construction technologies, green and environmental construction designs and the human-oriented construction idea. On the other hand, as the capital of China, Beijing is an international city where the history and the modern society have merged together, the national political, economic and cultural center as well as the location of large domestic and international enterprises’ headquarters. Besides, as the synergetic development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province will be achieved before long in the future, Beijing, as the center, will form an organic and interactive web together with Tianjin and Hebei Province under this strategic plan. In addition, protected by a series of favorable policies, China will expand its cooperation with South Korean enterprises represented by POSCO Group in many fields, and jointly build the Wangjing area into China’s Silicon Valley.”

Visit and Experience the POSCO Center
After the excellent and passionate speech of Director Zhou, all the distinguished guests came onto the stage and jointly completed the grand ribbon-cutting ceremony. The whole activity ended in a satisfactory way along with the ribbon falling on the ground. Then, all the guests, led by President Kam Gyu-sik, went inside the Center for a visit, witnessed and experienced the new model of business offices created by the POSCO Center. 

 
After passing through a 36-meter-high pillarless lobby decorated witha fashionable steel tree with eastern characteristics, what came into sight were coffee houses and banks on the first floor, and gym centers, medical centers, various kinds of business space and multipurpose and multifunctional conference rooms on the upper floors. All kinds of business and living facilities had been fully equipped here. Besides, the gusts had already begun to be attracted by the POSCO Center when they were in such a comfortable temperature and humidity that they thought they were in nature. They also gave high praise when entering the office as the settled staff to experience intelligent office facilities and the spacious and excellent office environment enabling the staff to enjoy natural light anytime and anywhere. 

In the end, the guests who had not fully enjoyed themselves decided at the moment to take the five sightseeing elevators respectively to enjoy the varying night scenes of the Wangjing area from the first floor to the top floor, and they talked about the future of the POSCO Center as well as the new model of business offices it had brought to the Wangjing area and the Beijing area.

As for the appearance of the POSCO Center, what we see is its construction design; as for its inside layout, what we experience intensively is its commitment to users’ needs. The POSCO Center will certainly become an iconic office building in the Wangjing area in the future. Moreover, with its high-quality hardware and software facilities and services as well as its persistent adherence to the human-oriented construction and management idea, the Center will create a new pattern of business offices in Beijing, and take the lead in Beijing office building market. This is also a desire shared by all the guests after the visit.
