Gigs of the Week: Shocking Pinks, Guiguisuisui, Nakoma and Glow Curve, and Muse

Ahead are the best raucous rock shows of the week, sure to get your head bobbing or banging through your precious leisure time.

Sep 18: Shocking Pinks
Hailing from New Zealand, this dance-punk phenomenon will be tearing up School Bar for your listening pleasure on Friday. Managing to conjure up sounds reminiscent of artists like James Murphy, Fleetwood Mac, and My Bloody Valentine, Shocking Pinks have perfected this brand of bittersweet melancholia that has landed him on the roster of legendary labels like Flying Nun and DFA. If you can’t make it tomorrow, he’s also ripping a DJ set at Dada tonight (Sep 17) for this month’s Gulou Double Decker. RMB 60. 9pm. School Bar

Sep 18: Glow Curve and Nakoma
This show should have a little bit of everything for rock lovers. Though teetering on the edge of post-rock and math rock, these two bands exhibit an extreme amount of skill that will leave you in equal parts uncontrollably throwing your fist in the air in chronic jubilation and wanting to start some trouble. RMB 60. 9pm. DDC

Sep 19: Guiguisuisui Album Release Show
Fresh off his European tour, this underworld scum legend hasn’t wasted any time further building up his discography. Come check it out as he showcases his unique fuzzed out version of Delta blues, doused in bit crushed noise and Howling Wolf vocals. His macabre vibes will send you on a journey to the dark recesses of your subconscious only to return transformed into a drone ready to perform King Necros’s deviant biddings. RMB 50. 9pm. DDC

Sep 19: Muse
Wow, we’ve had a roller coaster of a summer filled with internationally acclaimed acts having their gigs cancelled for whatever reasons. As it stands, Muse is the last band standing. Fresh off the release of their seventh album, Drones, which was hailed as their most focused work in a decade, you can expect a swarthy collection of new songs, along with some of their classics spanning their 20 years as a band. This is undeniably one of the most anticipated shows of the summer. RMB 380-1280. 8pm. MasterCard Center
