Gigs of the Week: Lifafa, Deecracks, Ran Live Vol. 1, Nite Fields
Break that weekly grind with some exceptional musical offerings around the city this week. Plenty of out-of-towners and locals will be performing around Beijing this weekend, providing sounds ranging from punk, Bollywood informed experiments, and live hip-hop.
Sep 11: Lifafa
This important figure of the New Delhi underground music scene will present an intimate live performance at DDC this Friday. His influences like 50s and 60s pop and experimental electronic music swarm together to form a unique genre defying sound worth your time and overall well being to explore. He will be joined by Carsick Cars / White+ founder Zhang Shouwang, and the evening will culminate in an improvised group jam with some of Beijing's finest. Alternatively, if you can't wait then catch him spinning a DJ set at Dada tonight, starting 10pm. RMB 30. 9pm. DDC
Sep 11: Deecracks (Austria) China Tour
Check out these Austrian gutter punks as they unleash a wall of grime and thrash on the School Bar’s unsuspecting patrons this Friday night. They will be supported by the equally malevolent Free Sex Shop and The Diders to help you rage the night away in true punk form. RMB 50. 9pm. School Bar
Sep 12: Ran Live Vol. 1
Ran Music is excited to bring you its first ever label showcase. The lineup will boast some of the Beijing music scene's most exciting artists, including rapper MC Dawei, electronic jazz duo Soulspeak and Ttechmak, sweaty garage rock band Luv Plastik, and up-and-coming house producer J.R.G. RMB 50. 9pm. DDC
Sep 16: Nite Fields
These boys from Brisbane will be channeling the energy of classic goth like The Cure, Cocteau Twins, and Clan of Xymox for a bewitching evening of sonic depravity. Fans of derelict pop aesthetics such as this should definitely check them out. RMB 50. 9pm. School Bar
