The World Underground Explores China's Bustling Music Scene at Yugong Yishan

Make sure to get over to Yugong Yishan tonight (July 10) to check out the premiere of the most up-to-date visual document of the Chinese underground music scene. Though this will be a short cut of the final version, it will definitely be a comprehensive representation of what’s currently going on in these fertile pockets of important music across China.

The World Underground is the project of Mr. John Yingling. You may have seen him at every single show in Beijing last fall, shooting from the hip and capturing some of the best sounds emerging from the capital. He's a really passionate guy when it comes to music. He started working with this kind of journalistic format back in Chicago and figured that there was nothing stopping him from continuing this project all over the world. So he made extensive use of social networking and online fundraising platforms to make his initial and return trips to China.

Now he's back to show off the fruits of his labor, in a one night musical event that would be foolish to miss. The evening will begin with the screening of the The World Underground and continue with performances from Residence A, Diders, Stolen, Chuiwan, and Subs. It should be grandiose exposition that runs the gambit of the Beijing scene.

Next week he's off again with local outer zone music folks GUIGUISUISUI and Noise Arcade to the Northeast of China, then to South Korea and Japan.

Though this is the first episode in the series, John plans on continuing this project in countries around the world to connect creative musicians and capture these unique moments in time.
