Transformers: Age of Extinction Hits Road Block With Chinese Partners
Set to premiere on June 27, Transformers: Age of Extinction features a handful of scenes from Beijing, including the Great Wall, Bird’s Nest National Stadium, and the Water Cube. Global Times reported that there will be about 20 seconds of this footage that might not make it to the final cut.
Investment consulting, management and real estate developing company Beijing Pangu Investments stated that both Paramount and Jiaflix fudged up their PR obligations. Now they want to terminate their partnership and are forcing the scenes shot around Pangu Plaza to be removed from the final Chinese release, or else they will seek legal action and prevent the movie from being released.
Many in the industry believe this is Pangu's way of recovering some of their expenses and generate some media exposure before the release. Not a bad idea, though it only serves as a reminder of how wildly unpredictable it can be for Hollywood to work with Chinese investors.
Some of the things that didn't happen that were initially in the Chinese language version of the contract were Pangu would have the right to produce and sell merchandise, exhibit memorabilia from the film at Pangu Plaza, and also stage the Film's opening premiere at the Pangu Seven Star Hotel.
