Capital Bites: RMB 88 Unlimited Roast Duck, Chi Restaurant's Charity Dinner and Cronuts

If you're one of those who can't ever get enough duck, here's a hot tip. The Quanjude in Shuangjing (just outside of exit D on the southwest corner of the Shuangjing subway line 10 stop) is offering a buffet with unlimited roast duck. That's crazy, right? The details are more off-the-hook, with the promotion running daily for both lunch (RMB 88) and dinner (RMB 98). Kids below 1.4 meters are half-price and kids under two eat free.

For lovers of fish rather than fowl, you'll be happy to hear that Okra will be expanding their hours to include Sundays (5pm-9.30pm). I still think the chef menu (RMB 375) is one of the best values in town for the quality of food and general experience you'll get. Plus, if you hit up the two-for-one happy hour (daily 6-8pm), you can snag some superb cocktails as well at the cost of RMB 68 for two drinks.

Sweet-tooth that I am, I jumped at the chance to try the cronuts at Opera Bombana in Parkview Green back in December when the kitchen originally tried their hand at them by special request. Recently, they've started selling them just a few floors up from the restaurant at the Illy Espressamente Cafe. I hear that the tip is to get your cronut topped with caramel ice cream. YOLO, or something like that, if you need any justification (which you shouldn't).

In the hutongs, Chi Restaurant will be hosting guest chef Rob Cunningham (East Hotel) for a charity dinner they are calling "Chi for Love" this Friday, February 21. Tickets are RMB 500 per person with two seatings (5.30-8pm, 8.15-10pm) and will be a six-course meal with wine. All proceed will be donated to One School.

Finally, the dining experience isn't just about the eating, and the power team behind Mosto, Modo Urban Deli and Moka Bros knows this. They've been again blazing trails with their new aesthetically tricked-out website for Moka which launched today. It's worth the click, and a glance in the least. (This is not to say that food isn't of prime importance for them; yesterday they started a new set of breakfast hours, 8am onwards, and menu).
