Beijing's Newest Champagne Brunch: Kerry's Kitchen
We're always happy to welcome a new player to the Beijing brunch scene, and the most recent addition is Kerry Hotel Beijing's Sunday affair at Kerry's Kitchen. The spread lives up to what you expect from a brunch buffet – a seafood station, a variety of eggs (with a made-to-order option), roast meats, a salad bar, and a spread of cold cuts and cheeses. I took particular pleasure in the discovery of caper berries. There are also Chinese options (malatang, a selection of dim sum, a noodle station) and Japanese options (tempura, sashimi, sushi).
The dessert area is notable for its whimsy. There are GIANT slabs of chocolate which you are supposed to break with a wooden mallet, puffs of cotton candy and bins of gummies. Conveniently, the good people at Kerry have thought to provide small plastic take-away containers so the small ones (or if you have no shame, which I certainly didn't, the large ones) can squirrel away candy for later in the day.
Adult prices are RMB 388 or if you want to get boozy, then put down RMB 498 for the addition of Tattinger Champagne. Kids (ages six to 12) are RMB 194, and this includes access to Kerry Centre's new Adventure Zone for two hours between 11.30am-3pm. Children under six accompanied by two paying adults get to eat for free as well as gaining entry to the Adventure Zone. So, while in a way this is a family brunch, it's also a couple's get-away – get the young ones fed before sending them upstairs for some supervised climbing and sliding, and enjoy a few lazy Sunday hours of sipping on bubbles and snacking.
