Talking Entertainment: What's Next From Studio Ghibli and Louvre Collection in Beijing
Studio Ghibli will be releasing another enchating anime feature in summer 2014. The film will be based Joan G. Robinson's children's book When Marnie Was There about a girl who meets a ghost by the seaside. This will be the first Ghibli release since the studio's co-founder Hayao Miyazaki retired. Ghibli stunned us in 2010 with their magical adaptation of children's book The Borrowers entitled The Secret World of Arrietty.
Over 280 pieces from the Louvre in Paris are currently being displayed at the China National Museum. This is the first cooperation between the French and Chinese museums acccording to Beijing Today.
From Egypt, Mesapotamia, Greeks, Romans, Islam to Christianity and the Renaissance the exhibition runs the gamut of Meditteranean civilizations and their development in chronological order. Intended to highlight the significance of these cultures, their rises and falls and their impact on humanity, the collection promises to be an astounding history lesson worh visiting over the holidays.
Many may be familiar with the kids cartoon Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf which airs regularly on Chinese TV. The makers of a popular cartoon have been fined almost RMB 40,000 by a Jiangsu court after two children suffered severe burns imitating the show’s characters. The pair, brothers aged 5 and 8, were badly injured when a third child imitating a character from tied them to a tree and started a fire with dry leaves. The full story is available on beijingKids.
Andy Lau's Hong Kong action flick, Firestorm, is wrecking the box office this month. The story of a cop who struggles with moral connundrums as he tracks down a gang of thieves is screening in cinemas around Beijing.
