Talking Tunes: Modern Sky Starts as Surf Slackers and Goth Godfathers Descend
Merry Thankgiving, or something. We don't pay too much attention to it where I come from. All I know is that it's an excuse to eat loads of meat, and there's a parade of some sort. And loads of American football. Anyway, we should be talking about this weekend's aural offerings. And there are a bunch to talk about.
Did you get along to Tegan and Sara last night? They kicked off this year's Modern Sky Festival at Yugong Yishan and there's no let-up in the big-name acts coming our way in the next week or so.
Denmark's answer to post-rock titans Sigur Ros, Efterklang, perform at Yugong Yishan tonight (Nov 28) also as part of Modern Sky. Then, tomorrow night (Nov 29) Philadelphia rockers Free Energy take the reins at Yugong Yishan. On Saturday night (Nov 30) Swedish indie duo Club 8 is also at Yugong Yishan, before the big one on Sunday (Dec 1); The Cardigans at ThinkPad Space.
Away from the Modern Sky festivities, the long-awaited Mac DeMarco gig goes down at MAO Livehouse tomorrow night (Nov 29) and you can check out our interview with him here. He seems like quite the character.
Mac DeMarco - My Kind of Woman
On Saturday night (Nov 30) Beijing's very own rockabilly royalty Rolling Bowling play an album launch show at MAO Livehouse. And then on Sunday night (Dec 1), the godfather of goth himself, Peter Murphy comes to town at Yugong Yishan as part of a Bauhaus 35-year anniversary tour.
