Community Matters: Say No to Shark Fin With Celebrities
Around 100 million sharks are slaughtered each year. This noble animal endures cruel, humiliating treatment, and the very real threat of extinction at the hands of fishermen hacking off their fins.
There will be an opportunity to help these creatures and say "bye bye" to shark fin with local celebrities tomorrow at Sanlitun Soho. Roots and Shoots and Humane Society International are continuing their successful yearly campaign to raise awareness against the killing of sharks and consumption of shark fins by taking pledges to say "No" to eating shark fin.
The conservation groups will be taking pledges live tomorrow (Aug 8) at Sanlitun Soho B1 between 5.30pm and 6pm and 7pm and 7.30pm. The organizers have hinted that local celebrities will be present to make pledges as well, although when asked, the organizers would not reveal any names.
For those unable to attend, pledges and donations can be made easily online. There are also targeted participation incentive packages for university students, restaurants and companies with prizes to be won and recognition offered for joining the fight.
Organizers are looking for 10,000 pledges at this event. Expect a crowd.
