Stephen Chow Takes a Mocking
Beloved Chinese comedian Stephen Chow was the one to get mocked for a change. The star of hilarious classics Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle was appointed to the Guangdong Province CPPCC in mid-January and news of the actors’ new role exploded on the internet. Netizens were quick to point out to Chow that “being an official isn’t easy.” The CCTV program 24 hours picked up on the hype and showed clips of Chow playing different roles in government in his films and many netizens quoted the James Bond spoof From Beijing with Love. These are translations of the lines from the full scene where Chow's character, 007 is told he has a job to do...
Official Da Vinci (Law Ka Ling): "Your country has a job for you."
Secret Agent 007 (Chow): "Really? It’s finally my turn! …Ten years, it’s been ten years. I thought my country had completely forgotten about me."
Da Vinci: "How could it? Even underwear and toilet paper have their uses."
OO7: "Wow, that's a great metaphor. I’m ready to take on any assignment!"
Here is Youku's footage from the episode of 24 Hours. They really went all out with this, notice the backdrop of Chow with the cheeky headline “Committee Member Zhou Xingshi (Stephen Chow).”
