Going Underground: Taiyanggong, Line 10
“Going Underground” is a regular magazine column in which we explore the neighborhoods surrounding subway stations.
SELLING POINT
If you’re looking for a place to frolic without the inevitable hangover of Sanlitun, head to Taiyanggong and unleash your inner child.
SHOP
Though you may not wanna grow up, you now can be a “Toys ‘R’ Us” kid … with a credit card. Head over to the toy megastore at CapitaMall (Exit C) and revel in your ability to get anything you want without a tantrum.
EAT
If your antic energy is wearing off, head up to the fourth floor for a beach-bonfire lunch at Fish Mama and watch your seafood cook on upright skewers around a heap of blazing coals. Ooh and ahh as the juices of the roasting fish sizzle and pop. Then treat yourself to a big blue drink at Bread Talk and see what color it will turn your tongue.
PLAY
After you’re done bouncing off the walls, head to Yu Kids Earth on the third floor to watch the masters at work. Imagine giant lollipop-carousels; now imagine very young children trying to grab onto the slippery candy-colored surfaces and slowly sliding off. (You’re welcome.) If you’re looking to get out of the mall, caper your way through Taiyanggong Park (Exit B). Just off the far west corner of the park, you’ll hit the ultimate romper room, Ikea, where you can play house or join in on naptime.
