Great Beers in Gulou: Wind down at Aluss

Like a coffee shop for those who prefer something stronger, Aluss is a fine Gulou bar for catching up with old friends over some seriously fantastic premium imports like Vedett, ESB and Erdinger (all RMB 40).

This sparse, unobtrusive second-floor bar is conducive to kitchen table-type conversations and after-work five-to-sevens. The decor is a tad precious, but light tones, well-cared-for plants and eclectic furniture certainly don't hurt the eyes. The place could soothe anyone harried by the daily grind. If Aluss is welcomed by an audience as vociferous in their enthusiasm as that of the owner's other hideaway, Amilal, this homey space will turn vibrant, while still providing a good table to oil up and unwind at.
