Hedonism at Your Service: Bacco Ristorante & Bar
Named after Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, Bacco champions a hedonistic approach to the pleasures of the table. An evening here could start with a Campari and soda at the bar and end, five courses and several Chianti bottles later, with a waiter offering to accompany an inebriated patron home by taxi (a free service within the Third Ring).
The Hong Kong owners have appointed a Sicilian manager and invested considerably in their extensive wine list and brown-and-cream “Naples-nouveau” interior.
Regional favorites such as Sicilian lamb chops (RMB 188), spaghetti Bolognese (RMB 98) and prosciutto di Parma share the menu with more substantial secondi like the “FBI,” a 300-gram beef fillet.
At lunch, briskly served set menus (RMB 52-102) are available; our order of bruschetta with cherry tomatoes, potato and carrot soup, and gooey, thin-crust mushroom and onion pizza was satisfying but lacking in spark. Far more memorable was the exceptional espresso made from a house roast in a gorgeous Belle Epoque-style machine.
