The Flavors of Morocco: Ibn Battouta

The steaming bowl of harira (RMB 25), a hearty yet subtly spiced soup of lentils, chickpeas, rice and tomatoes, powerfully evoked – by smell, sight and taste – a trip to Morocco, catching me by surprise. Whether you too have fond memories of couscous to awaken or are new to Moroccan cuisine, expect the authentic dishes served in this charming hideaway to whisk you away.

Mohammed, the affable co-owner, is happy to suggest dishes, like a tagine of lamb (RMB 65) with prunes, almonds and onions in a thick gravy which we scooped up with hunks of delicious homemade crusty flatbread. It would have paired beautifully with a Guerrouane, but since no wine is served, we ended our culinary excursion in traditional fashion, with three cups of sweet mint tea.
