Beijing in Pictures: Knife Attacks, DUI and Naked Sculptures
Police released an image of a thirty-something Chinese male who is wanted by Beijing police in connection with two knife attacks on foreigners in Beijing. Both attacks took place on the afternoon of Oct 29, one in the square by Fulllink Plaza, the other in a restaurant close to the Beijing Railway Station. An American and Russian were injured in the two attacks. Beijing police released the image of the suspect on Friday, but as of noon on Monday, there have been no breakthroughs in the case.
A naked statue stares down a disfigured image of Lao Zi. The two new sculptures located in front of the new building within Peking University's Guanghua School of Management stirred up controversy among faculty and students last week.

The city's traffic police launched a campaign to crack down on a range of traffic violations on Oct 30. Police were targeting drink-driving, unlicensed driving and also enforcing the new traffic restrictions that limit the days on which drivers can take to the street according to the digit that their license plate numbers end in. There were approximately 4000 police deployed at major intersections across the city.
Five drivers were picked up for drink driving between 8-9pm at one checkpoint in Dongcheng district alone.

Expect to see motorcycle ambulances speeding along Beijing's congested streets by the end of the year. Beijing 999 and 120 have announced that they plan to gradually introduce motorbike ambulances kitted-out with high-tech first-aid gear. The motorbikes will be able to provide emergency first aid assistance before a regular ambulance arrives to take the patient to hospital. Current plans envisage having 50 motorbike ambulances servicing the city's eight urban districts.
