Language Exchange Partners

Since my original thread got deleted, I will make a new one.

How many of you who've had language exchange partners had developed a romantic relationship from the exchange?

I believe that sex is one of the most beautiful, natural, wholesome things that money can buy.

Re: Language Exchange Partners

Don't know about the exchange ppl, but I do know a couple, the guy was the girl's tutor before....

Re: Language Exchange Partners

Having read your original OP I agree with your choice of nick. And as I wrote in my last reply, you are still a weirdo even though this post is more modest.

(Brian starts singing)
Stewie : Hey, who sings that song?
Brian: James Taylor.
Stewie: Let's keep it that way.

Re: Language Exchange Partners

i guess people won't expect much about the relationship. things should be happening naturally. no matter it happens or not, at least we can learn something useful. isn't it good?

Re: Language Exchange Partners

Been there, done that. Some use the pretense of language exchange to try and obtain something else, but in real language exchange relationships this 'romance' might develop also.

Re: Language Exchange Partners

what do you mean "language exchange partners"?

like a Chinese teaches a Yank Chinese and the Yank teaches the Chinese English in return?

I am not a good teacher...actually I find Chinese hard to learn myself...

My Boyfriend only knows "NI HAO" and "Huai Dan"...Kind of funny when he says them....Lol!

I used to have a crush on my accounting teacher when I was in my senior school...Lately, when I met him again, he looked quite ugly....

I guess people's taste changes over the years...

Re: Language Exchange Partners

I had a language exchange partner before, the experience was not so good, I don't think that guy really wants a language partner, but sth else, I don't like it. Most foreigner people are very open, energetic and humourous, and we Chinese people are a little conservative compared with foreigners, so for me it's funny and interesting to kill time with foreigners, I like it, no matter as friends or lanuage partner, but I hate they want sth else in the name of language partner, so no more contact. BTW he said most foreigners act like this, does language exchange mean a kind of special relationship for u?

I can't speak for every foreigner out there, nor speaking from a guy point of view, but from what I've noticed is that due to the fact that local Chinese are more conservative and practical, most of the time they tend to think more and take things more personal.

For example, I used to work under my mom in the same company, she was the high manager and I was only a graphic designer. I talked to a local Chinese friend of mine about some of the friends that I've made within the company, how they were nice and I had fun talking to them...etc. The first response I got from this Chinese friend was "Are they only nice to you because you are the daughter of the high manager?"

.....I honestly didn't even think that much Sad And when I told the same thing to my expat friends, they said "That's great! Bring them next time and we can hang out!"

This is just a personal opinion and experience of mine, and like you said most foreigners are more open, energetic, and humourous in a non-conservative way, though some may seem to want more (no-string attached sex), but not every foreigner you see are like the boys and girls in "Girls gone wild" video.

(Really depends on where you met this language exhange partner too, but maybe I'm just too naive.)
