I took the train to Qinhuangdao (fast D trains) from Beijing Station. Ticket was about 100RMb and the trip lasted 2 hours.
From Qinhuangdao, took a taxi to Beidahe (20mn) and 50 RMB.
The return can be iffy as there aren't really direct train between the two cities so tickets can be hard to come by for the fast train and trust me, you wouldn't want to take the slow 6 hour train.
coming back is better done by Bus either from Beidahe itself or qinhuangdao (3 hour ride)

I know the cheapest way to there, Taking train No.1712.1138.or 4495 only cost you 21 yuan and nearly 4 hours directly to Beidaihe.
