算盘 (suànpán) are pleased to host one of the UK’s best underground selectors - Bake - to play at Zhao Dai on Friday, 19th October 2018.

There are DJs, and there are DJs. Bake, aka Barkat Singh, is the co-founder of Glasgow label All Caps and a DJ in the truest form of the word.

Bake has been drawing attention from those in the know since he stepped onto the scene as a DJ in 2010, starting the limited release, buy-on-sight All Caps label soon after. Releases from the likes of Kowton, Ekranoplan and Florist, have seen it become one of the most in-demand labels around. Hearing Bake play music - whether on his perfectly executed monthly Rinse FM residency, or at a sweaty party - is like hanging out with a good friend: you might be introduced to something new or hear something you knew already, but not in the way you’ve known it. A skill that few possess, this is how Bake separates himself from the rest and takes DJing to another level entirely. He will make tracks you think you know sound completely new and make you hear things in tracks you didn’t know existed, blending tracks into each other in a way that creates very special moments for those in the room.

What Bake brings to the turntables is decidedly unique, in the way that he’s able to deftly command a broad spectrum of music and filter it through his personality and onto the crowd. Any record, obscure or well-known, can sound new, as if Bake’s relationship with it is brings new meaning to it for everyone.

As part of his Asia tour in October, we are delighted to say that he will be joining us in the one of the best sounding clubs in the city, where his selections will really have the chance to breathe and speak for themselves.
