Sheng Keyi, the author of acclaimed novels like Northern Girls, will appear at this venue to give a talk about her work.
The talk is part of Spittoon's regular Book Club. The coordinators say:
"The Spittoon Book Club isn’t quite in its infancy anymore; with novels by Margaret Atwood, A Yi and Fumiko Enchi under our belt, we are a toddler at least. As anyone who has migrated between Spittoon’s various poetry, fiction, slam, and spit-tunes events can tell you, every Spittoon night has its own personality. While other events are characterized by boisterous performances and dramatic readings, the book club is more intimate. We’re about sharing the hearty conversation, opinions and questions that reading a good book provokes. There is much more sitting comfortably around a table than standing nervously on a stage.
Though we are hungry to read Chinese literature—this isn’t a “China” book club per se. Good writing from any continent, nation or territory is up for grabs. Spittoon is above all a creative community. Reading feeds writing, so we aim to read the kind of books that enrich our literary lives. You certainly don’t have to be a writer to join though; all book nerds are welcome.
