In September of 2015, dART was born. No one has forgotten the stage set up built for that night. The flashing circuit transmission lines that twisted around the enigmatic 3D mapping visuals created futuristic landscape. That unique structure with a special texture was designed by BAM – a team of incredibly talented geniuses.

Designers love to represent themselves and their work as a perfect process. This kind of representation is a fabrication, a constructed façade, and an artificial reality that BAM stands in opposition to. Most architects are still constrained by the Modernist belief that the work must stand for itself. However, for BAM, the work and the projects do not represent ‘the whole picture’.

BAM started as a group of like-minded individuals who were nearly expelled from architecture school for creating installation art. Over the past 10 years BAM’s admittedly dumb strategy of ‘just say yes’ has led to countless mistakes yet ultimately resulted in a portfolio of strange and exuberant works with a seemingly incomprehensible breadth; from the design of costumes, parades, building facades, parks, furniture, wickless hand candles to musical events.

After ten years of pursuing almost anything in and around the unknown, BAM’s exhibition, 10 YEARS OF DUMB, opens on September 2nd at Tabula Rasa Gallery in 798. On September 15, BAM and their two-year-old friend dART will co-host a birthday party featuring live set from Berlin-based DoubtingThomas, Bangkok-based Aida and Beijing-based Boflex, visual artistNoizome, and of course surprise showcase of BAM.

With astonishing installations, audio-visual artists and live acts, it is our chance to reflect on the past in a time and place racing to forge the future.
