With its peaceful courtyard ambiance and an approach to service that seems to be modeled on that of the Forbidden City pre-1911, entering Whampoa Club feels like stepping into another age. Some of the interior remains traditional, but the lower level’s main room is spectacularly sleek and modern. Whampoa is the work of chef Jereme Leung, who has used his expertise to update traditional Beijing dishes and favorites from around China alike with a contemporary makeover - including popular flavors from the streets such as shaobing (Beijing-style bread), jiemo dun’r (cabbage in a mustard sauce), madoufu (sesame seed tofu) and even gets creative with baijiu at the Club’s sleek and sexy Black Bar. Be prepared to pay and there’s a 10% service charge. Bookings are highly recommended
