Experience Jazz Fusion with a Whole Lot of Synth at This Blue Note Show, Nov 16-17

The Blue Note stage is set to be graced by a different kind of sound tonight and Friday night, when French musician Thierry Maillard and his band the Thierry Maillard Trio, aka Moog Project, bring a new kind of jazz-rock infused with ‘70s influences, ‘80s influences, and a whole lot of synthesizers.

Channeling the spirit of jazz fusion in the ‘70s and early ‘80s, Maillard, who plays synth, invited drummer Yoann Schmidt and pianist Amaury Faye to form the trio. The result is a love letter to legendary fusion jazz bands and their keyboard wizards, like Jan Hammer, Joe Zawinul, Chuck Corea, Herbie Hancock, and George Duke.

The concert also works to introduce the band’s album, also titled Moog Project, which contains reinterpretations of several songs by bands like Supertramp, a transformation of the Jerome Kern classic “All the Things You Are”, as well as four original pieces.

Whether you’re a passionate lover of jazz, rock, or electronic music, this concert will be one for the ages and one not to miss. Bringing together three generations of musicians, the Moog Project allows audiences to find their place in the music.

The trio’s concert in Beijing comes thanks to Harmonious Melody, a concert label founded by Beijing-based jazz musician Pierre Pradat. In order to contribute to the best possible jazz music in the capital, Harmonious Melody has produced 50 jazz master tributes at venues like The Bricks, Tango by Ala House, and Blue Note.

Harmonious Melody will soon be hosting Canadian musician and Beijing expat Ember Swift in concert, as well as a tribute concert to the aforementioned keyboard master Chuck Corea. You can scan the QR code below to follow them.
