Line 1 Branch Line to Connect Four Lines with Fengtai, Shijingshan

As Beijing’s subway network continues to spread its subterranean tentacles ever outward, construction on yet another new line – more of a branch line, to be exact – is set to kick off at the end of this year, according to an environmental impact report cited by Beijing Evening News.

Officially called the “Extension Project of Beijing Rail Transit Line 1”, or Line 1 Branch Line for short, it will travel southwest from its starting point on Line 1’s Bajiao Amusement Park Station, terminating in the Qinglong Lake area of Fengtai District. There will be transfer stations on Line 1, Line 14, a coming extension to Line 11, and the sub-city rail line.

The Beijing Evening News report says the new line is expected to improve transit in southwestern Beijing, and better serve areas in Shijingshan and Fengtai Hexi. There’s gonna be a bit of a wait for these improvements, though, as the report adds the line isn’t expected to be completed until June of 2027.

The Line 1 Branch Line joins a number of other recently announced or soon to be completed subway lines, including the M101 Line in Tongzhou, Line 16, Line 28 (aka the CBD line), Line 3 (which still has no deadline in sight), new phases and sections of existing lines, and Line 22, which will connect the CBD to Pinggu and Hebei province.
