New Bistros, Bars & Eateries to Try in Sanlitun

Spring of 2023 is off to a good start for dining in the capital, with a slew of new openings in and around Sanlitun and Gongti to check out.

From a few spots with "bistro" in the name, to bars, to a new sushi restaurant from a top sushi master, here's what's new in the neighborhood.

Bistro RE

This Beijing restaurant chain entered Sanlitun last summer with a pop up shop outside Taikooli South selling coffee, bicycles, clothes and other things last summer, Bistro RE – whose motto is Reading is Living for some reason – has moved into a brick and mortar location (and fifth location in total) within Taikooli as of March. The bicycle and clothing shop is still there, but it’s joined by a neat bar and café area, an array of menu options ranging from Cuban sandwiches (RMB 128) to Steak Frites (RMB 188) and many other tantalizing options.

Victory Bistro & Bar

Another bistro that’s recently opened in the Gongti area, Victory looks to be keeping things simple with a mishmash menu of Western classics from spaghetti to soups to salads and a whole lot of comfort food. There’s also a small bar on the restaurant’s lower level as well as an upper seating area.

Duang Bistro & Bar

Yet another bistro – nothing like a bit of extra pizzazz in a name we suppose – Duang leans a little more on the bar element, looking more like a swanky cocktail lounge than a bistro. That being said, the drinks on offer do look nice, so if you’re on the lookout for a new cocktail joint to hit up, Duang might just be it.

Tarentum

This sleek recent addition to Sanlitun, up on the third level of Taikooli South right across from Saigon Mama, is a bit of an odd mishmash – it calls itself a “Greek Brunch” place but also offers coffee, tea, and a whiskey lounge. The menu is equally as mixed, featuring all kinds of breakfast options, pasta, and more dishes that go well beyond the Greek sounding name and billing.

Sushi Fujimoto

The first Beijing branch opened by Kenichi Fujimoto, a sushi master who worked in the two-Michelin star Sushi Saito in Hong Kong before opening his very own sushi restaurant in Hong Kong in 2022, there’s a lot of attention to detail going on at Sushi Fujimoto, and it’s not just in the minimalist design. Each piece of sushi is delicately made, and, if Dianping reviews are anything to go by, making a visit to this spot is well worth the RMB 2,000+ price tag.
