Driverless Taxis Hit the Suburbs: Driverless taxis are now available for hire in suburban Beijing, marking a new era in intelligent transport, reports CGTN. Baidu and Pony.ai were granted licenses in March to operate fully autonomous robotaxi services in the capital, a first of its kind. The companies have each deployed ten autonomous vehicles in a 60 square km area in Yizhuang, without the need for a human driver. Consequently, passengers can now enjoy a fully autonomous ride in the suburbs of Beijing.  

Beijing to Install Earthquake Warning Systems in Key Infrastructure Project: To minimize damage and casualties caused by earthquakes, Beijing has decided to incorporate earthquake warning systems in major infrastructures and crowded places such as railways, power centers, pipelines, and dangerous facilities like coal mines and large reservoirs, according to a report from China Daily. In addition, devices for receiving and broadcasting warning information will be installed in public places such as schools, hospitals, railway stations, airports, sports venues, as well as in risky sites like nuclear facilities, large storage facilities, and large reservoirs. “Operational or administrative units should formulate earthquake early warning and emergency response plans,” stated Liu Bin, the deputy director of the Beijing Emergency Management Bureau.

National Aquatics Center's "Light it Blue" Event promotes awareness: To celebrate the 16th World Autism Awareness Day, the National Aquatics Center in Beijing will be lit up in blue on Apr 2, according to a report from China.org. The Light it Blue Event, organized by the Olympic venue for the 13th year in a row, aims to promote fairness and equality among children with autism. This year, the venue has partnered with the National Speed Skating Oval and local AI companies to launch a series of initiatives, including sports activities that people can take part in.

A New Consumption Hub in Changping: A new consumption hub is being built in Beijing’s suburban district of Changping to boost the city’s global status, reports Xinhua News. Progress has been made on the construction of a landmark in Changping New Town, which will feature a commercial zone of almost 1.2 million square meters, integrating business streets, according to Guo Wenjie, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Commerce.
