See Shanghai Comedy Superstar Dawn Wong in Beijing Tomorrow (Feb 16)

After being unable to make it to Beijing to perform last year, Shanghai-based comedian Dawn Wong is finally coming to Beijing!

Wong has been doing stand-up comedy for a number of years, and is a regular headlining act at Spicy Club, a Shanghai-based English-language stand-up comedy club. She has had an interest in comedy from a young age, telling Shanghai Daily: "Ever since I was a kid, I've been into comedy ... My dad was pretty funny, and he had a certain wit about him. When we'd to go to restaurants, he'd always make the waiters laugh."

However, her comedy career really took off after her wedding day speech went viral. Back in 2019, Wong married her Irish partner at a wedding ceremony in Ireland. Now, traveling across half the globe to get married and meet all of your future husband's extended family and friends might make most people a little nervous, but not Wong!

In her wedding speech Wong brought her comedy side out, roasting her husband and poking fun at some of the difficulties of an interracial relationship and cultural differences. It had her Irish in-laws completely cracking up. But, it wasn’t just guests at the wedding who found the speech hilarious. The video soon went viral and garnered over four million views across social media.

After this, Wong was signed up for a stand-up set and has been making waves ever since. Wong now has nearly two million followers on her Weibo ( @王天小天王) where she posts a variety of comedy videos such as a Fake News series where she plays news reporter Alison Alison. Along with fellow comedian Norah Yang she is also part of Kungpao Chicks, a comedy duo that creates funny sketches.

Wong is without a doubt one of the hottest English stand-up comedians in China right now, and if you want to check her out for yourself she will be performing tomorrow (Feb 16) in Sanlitun Soho.

Dawn Wong, hosted by the Comedy Citadel, will be performing in Sanlitun Soho tomorrow Feb 16, 9.30-11pm. Tickets can be purchased by scanning the QR code in the poster above.
