Daily Delivery Tour: Hot Dog Day

Editor's note: Due to Beijing's current restrictions on "cross-district food delivery", it's best to contact ahead if you are ordering from a restaurant that isn't in your district to see if they'll be able to deliver to you.

The options to take your taste buds for a trip around the world are pretty amazing here in the capital – so we’re taking it upon ourselves to focus on the culinary works of a new country or region each day.

On this day, we look at the humble hot dog. Though we don't talk about it much, we love it just as much as we do burgers and pizza. So here we offer for your consideration a number of hot dog styles and a few sausages as well.

Classic Hot Dog from Shake Shack

Of all the dogs on this list, Shake Shack offers up the most classic by far, and plain at that. Yep, their American Hot Dog (RMB 31) comes plain with some ketchup packets thrown in. Don’t let this dissuade you, though, because it’s good enough to be eaten on its own. It’s got a nice snap with each bite and a full, rich flavor that’s unmatched by most of the other hot dogs in town.

Even though it does come with just ketchup, you can opt to add in some of Shake Shack’s cheese sauce (for an extra RMB 9) to bring it to the next level. Find it on your favorite delivery app or head to one of Shake Shack’s locations for take away.

Chicago style from Funky Dogg

The Chicago style hot dog is perhaps one of the most popular variations on the classic there is. Whereas the aforementioned entry is plain, this one is anything but. This Windy City concoction traditionally comes loaded with mustard, relish, sport peppers, a pickle spear, tomato slices and chopped onions. It’s a whole meal in itself.

The itineration from Funky Dogg (RMB 43) remains faithful to the originally, except with theirs the sport peppers have been swapped out for a different, spicier variety. Plus, Funky Dogg’s hot dogs are more sausages than classic dogs, but it’s still pretty dang good all things considered.

Find it by searching their name on your favorite waimai app.

English Sausage from Arrow Factory

Arrow Factory is another joint known for its burgers (they place high up in our Burger Cup rankings each year), but they’ve also got a solid menu of British pub classics. Think meat pies, Bangers & Mash, Full English Breakfast… and, seeing as bangers and mash and a Full English requires a good sausage, a good sausage Arrow Factory does have.

They’ve got a variety to choose from, with names like the Herbie English, Siesta, and Spice of Life to choose from, but it’s best to go with the classic Herbie English variety. You can get the sausage on a roll for RMB 65, or for RMB 85, it comes with fries, onion relish, and a side salad.

Find it by searching Arrow Factory on Meituan or JSS.

Italian and Bratwurst from 3 Little Pigs

Seeing as this little hutong haunt is run by Andy of Andy’s Craft Sausages fame, you can guarantee they’ve got bomb sausages – even if it’s a sorely overlooked item on a menu loaded with options like burgers, sandwiches, BBQ and then some.

They’ve got two varieties on offer: spicy Italian style and the sweeter Cheese Bratwurst. Both come with a soft roll and peppers and onions for RMB 45 – it’s not traditional, but grab a small serving of their tater tots (RMB 30) and you can throw it atop the Italian sausage to make something akin to a classic Jimmy Buff’s hot dog.

3 Little Pigs currently isn’t offering delivery, but you can head on over to 44 Xieli Hutong and grab a sausage or two for take away.

Pork Hot Dog with Cheese & More from Bocata

On JSS, this hot dog is simply listed as “Pork Hot Dog with Cheddar”, but this does it a disservice. Along with melted cheddar, this monstrosity comes topped with onions, bacon, and even a chipotle aioli. It’s all yours for a hot RMB 92, but judging by the looks of it, it might just be well worth it.

Note: entries below this line are a little harder to contact via WeChat, so only phone info is provided

Chili Dog from Angel Burger

Angel Burger makes a solid burger or two, and their hot dogs are pretty decent, but their chili dog (RMB 40), pretty much a normal hot dog topped with beef and bean chili and shredded cheese, is pretty decent for the style of dog.
