Looking for good vibes and killer dance parties in Beijing? Check out Sugar House.

Sugar House was started in December 2018 by Mu (aka Dirty Dishes), a promoter in the music scene for over 12 years. You can find her DJing on stage with broccoli, eggplants, and other random vegetables in her hands, or catch her giving bananas out to the crowd.

Mu shares more about Sugar House dance parties in Beijing and how to meet people at their events.

What is Sugar House?

Sugar House is a community that celebrates diversity. It's a safe space for like-minded people and a cultural platform for talents. It’s a vibe, a lifestyle, a movement. It’s hot, juicy, high energy, soulful, and adventurous. It's a happy destination you can rely on after your 9 to 5.

What kind of events does Sugar House do?

We are running monthly R&B inspired dance parties, including club nights and brunch day parties when the weather is Supa Dupa Fly.

We have been hosting our parties in different locations all around the city, from hidden glasshouse venues, rooftop pools, and fancy hotel gardens to the soul of Beijing's underground.

We like to create memorable and unique experiences, and we want to encourage people to keep moving with us and to have fun instead of sticking with the same spot and same music every time they go out.

Our pre-sale tickets always sell out quickly. Sugar House parties have become a very popular night out in the city. We are honored  to be awarded the 2019 nightlife promoter of the year by That’s Beijing.

You also make Sugar House mixtapes! Tell us about these playlists and what kind of vibes they are.

We have mixtapes every month made by our DJs and talented DJs' friends. Our mixing style ranges from classic 90s and 2000s R&B and hip-hop to R&B inspired new sound mixes including bass, afrobeats, dancehall, and house - all good vibes. That’s what you can expect at our parties as well. We will keep you dancing in rhythms. Our mix is for people who want to keep the vibes going 24/7.

We also have a weekly playlist on Spotify with everything R&B, Hip-hop, and soul related, classics, and new releases alike.

How's the scene at Sugar House events for meeting new people or finding people to date?

Connecting people through music is what we do. Soul music is also all about love. So, of course, it’s a big YES to making friends and having a good time with your loved ones. We are so proud of our crowd – energetic, positive, dope, friendly, beautiful people.

Once you walk into our party, you will see everyone dancing, singing, and vibing with each other. Even if you don’t look the same and even if you don’t speak the same languages.

Have you seen any interesting dates happen at these parties?

We had a cute lady who secretly bought tickets for our NYE Party for herself and her boyfriend. She told us her boyfriend usually only goes to techno parties and they rarely enjoy the same kind of party. But she said she wanted to make the new year about her because she is a queen and she spent a lot of money on her NYE outfit. (Laughs).

Long story short, the boyfriend showed up, had so much fun, and was dancing and doing every move he could think of. He wouldn't leave the stage! Now he is a regular at our events.

Any upcoming events?

Yes, we are working on our next monthly party in August! BIG MOOD.
