Dine Out and Win Big at New Casino-Themed Bar and Restaurant, Lucky

Lucky’s flashy blue exterior belies the surprisingly cozy bar and restaurant and bar inside. But while the furnishings are predominantly woodsy, there are plenty of other decor touches that suggest that this isn’t just another cookie-cutter Sanlitun bar. Pink Panther dolls hug chairs and pillars, members of Justice League share milkshakes while staring out their nemeses, and dice pop out from under tables and around corners. Suffice to say, there’s plenty to keep you guessing.

While the decor is entertaining in itself, Lucky has plenty more on offer to keep you occupied. A pool table sits in front of the bar and a total of 10 TV screens playing live sports are dotted strategically around the space so every seat in the house gets a view of the action.

At the front of the venue, large windows let in plenty of natural light, perfect for lunch on a sunny day. Lucky’s lunch set menu, offered daily from 11am-5pm, offers the kind of satisfaction only a good, hearty meal can provide. There are 10 mains to choose from, each accompanied by three sides. Where else can you get a confit duck leg with all the trimmings for just RMB 48? And we’re sure anyone would be ready to face the cold outside after tucking into a 28cm-long hot dog.

As the sun sets, tasting flights of Lucky's own in-house craft beer keep the conversation flowing. For example, their Passion Fruit Gose is a revival of the sour wheat beer style from Germany, which disappeared around the 1960s but has seen a new lease of life in recent years. Made with passion fruit, the beer also has a hint of Himalayan pink salt. Lucky's Black Tea Lager is made with rose black tea and is fermented at a lower temperature to give a crisp clean body with hints of floral and malty aromas. It also happened to win a silver medal in the "herb and spice beer" category at the 2018 International Beer Cup in Japan.

Speaking of award-winning beers, the Vanilla Coffee Imperial Stout – which with its rich mouthfeel and notes of coffee and chocolate is perfect for the cooler weather – won a gold medal in the "coffee specialty beer" category at the China Craft Beer Awards 2018.

Perhaps cocktails are more your thing? Take advantage of the all-day-all-night happy hour (buy one drink, get the second half price) to sample concoctions like the Yang Gui Fei, a pleasant combination of gin, yellow rice wine, Yakult, lime, and lychee. If cocktails with names like Devil Kiss and Lucky #8 don’t tickle your fancy, the bartenders will be happy to whip up your favorite classic cocktail instead.

Should you need something to soak up all those drinks, Lucky’s à la carte menu boasts pages and pages of reliable American fare. The barbecue chicken wings are great to nibble on as you discuss the finer points of whatever spot happens to be on the TV. The "Garbage Can" does what it says on the tin (see what we did there), giving you a can filled with a fried chicken burger, fried onion rings, and lots of other snacks to be shared with a group.

Be careful when ordering, as you may get more than you gambled for. Spreads like the burger tower (a stack of four hefty burgers) and The Lucky’s Bloody Mary (topped with burgers, hot dogs, sausages, pickles, and more) could take more space than your table can accommodate. Though, in our book, that’s a good problem to have.

Feeling lucky after all that food and drink? Well, why not try your hand at winning a free meal? Lucky also gives every table two chances – on the craps table and the roulette wheel – to get a full refund on their bill. Don’t worry if you don’t win though, Lucky also has a daily offer of 50 percent off selected dishes.
