Want to Write About the City You Love? Come Work for the Beijinger!

That's right, we're hiring!

If you've ever dreamed of working in a fast-paced, high-pressure newsroom to the furious clatter of keyboard typing and shouts of "Get this to press!" and "You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!" then well, you should keep looking because we keep it a bit more casual around here.

On the other hand, if you know Beijing inside-out and you love telling stories, digging into the latest local news, and following up tips from your many WeChat contacts, then this might just be your dream job.

We're looking for a bad-ass Editor to complement our editorial staff. Perks of the job include sitting next to an Australian, regularly going out to cover Beijing's latest openings and events, and all the ballpoint pens you could dream of. Oh, and also a lot of editorial freedom to write about what you think is interesting and worthy of our readers' attention.

Interested? Damn straight you are!

If you're the right applicant, you will have a good sense of what makes an interesting angle to a story. You will plan, coordinate, review, and edit content alongside us, your fellow editors. You'll be able to decide which ideas should be pursued and which should get dropped in order to meet quality and accuracy standards. The goal is to provide exceptional, informative, and engaging content.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather information about lifestyle happenings in Beijing
  • Generate story ideas and write fun, informed, and practical blogs
  • Represent the Beijinger and TRM externally at community and client events

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (major in English, journalism, communications, or a relevant field)
  • Proven working experience as an editor
  • Strong writing/editing/proofreading skills
  • Excellent written skills in English
  • An eye for detail and critical thinking
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask, all the while keeping to strict deadlines
  • Highly sociable

Bonus points if you have the following:

  • Chinese language skills
  • Hands-on experience with InDesign, Photoshop, or other publishing tools
  • Proven familiarity with SEO and social media best practices
  • Has lived in Beijing for at least a year

Ready to apply?

Interested applicants, please send your updated resume AND three writing samples to employment@truerun.com. Due to the volume of applications that we receive, only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
