5 Things to Taste, Smell, Touch, Hear, and See, Dec 28-31

Beijing can be an overstimulating place to live, to say the least. Let’s be real: sometimes even our sixth sense (the one that tells you when that stick of chuan'r will make you sick for the next two days) gets a decent workout. With such a wide variety of events, restaurants, and gigs to attend, we suggest bathing each of your five senses in one, if not all, of the nourishing goings-on below.

Taste

Dec 30: Yoga For Gut Health Workshop
Avoiding carbs and fatty delicacies can be a challenge in our temptation rife capital. Indeed, the old adage "Let food be thy medicine" is often silenced by the slurping of noodles or chomping of Peking Duck that reverberates throughout Beijing's dining scene. But if you're truly ready to start the New Year on a better foot (or food), head to this three-hour workshop about how yoga can benefit your eating habits and gut health. Sunday 2pm. RMB 500. Satya Yoga.

Smell

TRB New Year's Brunch
"Treat yourself" is a mantra we live by, especially right after payday. So why should the end of the year be any different? TRB Hutong, which was recently named the best fine dining restaurant in Asia by Trip Advisor, has launched a brunch deal for the last days of 2018. Indulge all your senses in the feast prepared by this upscale eatery. Sat-Tue reservation required. RMB 388 per person. TRB.

Touch

Dec 29: Space Cycle x She's Mercedes
Don your most glamorous workout clothes and work up a sweat for 2019. Space Cycle has teamed up with Mercedes Benz to bring you a pumped up party for the holiday season. Participants will enjoy a 90-minute session of dancing and yoga. Sat 7:30pm. Free (registration via QR code needed). Space Cycle Taikooli.

Hear

Dec 28: IC3PEAK! at Dada
Like your holidays dark? Then check out Russian duo IC3PEAK, who will bring a tale of macabre pop and haunting visuals to Dada. Their lyrics are mostly in Russian, but that will only add to the mysterious vibe. Fans of Die Antwoord will be inspired by IC3PEAK's performance, where audiovisual artists Nick Kostylev and Nastya Kreslina mix high-pitched vocals, violent lyrics, and supernatural visual fantasies. Friday 11pm. RMB 60 (RMB 80 after 11pm). Dada.

See

Dec 31-Jan 1: Salzburg Philharmonic Orchestra
There is no classier way to spend New Year's Eve than at a classical music concert. That's especially true if it is held in the glitzy Great Hall of People. Salzburg Philharmonic Orchestra is inviting you to an evening led by a renowned Russian violinist Elena Denisova and conductor Alexei Kornienko. The program includes Tschaikowsky, Strauss, Sviridov, and many others. Grab your bubbly and enjoy! Sunday and Monday 7:30pm. RMB 280-1680. The Great Hall of People.
