EAT: New Obentos Menu, Beyond Yakitori Terrace Opening Party, Rollbox and Palms L.A. Deals

I remember a time when "healthy eating" in Beijing basically meant cooking at home but nowadays we're practically flooded with restaurants offering everything from salads to low-calorie rice bowls to special diet-friendly meals. Take Obentos, for example, which has evolved over the years into a healthy option that never feels like you are depriving yourself. Obentos have recently launched their new summer menu, featuring tasty dishes such as wasabi-avocado dip with seed chips and veggie sticks (pictured at top), a fruity summer poke bowl, and the Gotta Kick in my Step salad, which is packed with fresh ingredients such as corn, radishes, and avocado.

Over at the new Rollbox in Xingfu'ercun, they have just launched a slew of deals, including meat-free Mondays, which gets you 20 percent off their vegetarian and vegan dishes, as shown in the poster above, from 6-10pm. We've also been hearing great feedback about the grilled tofu and oyster mushroom bowl (also available as a banh mi) from vegetarian friends. Otherwise, Tuesdays are buy-two-get-one-free on their new cocktail range, Saturdays are half-price banh mi with any cocktail, and by making it over on Sundays your efforts will be rewarded via a free Beerlao with every sandwich.

Of course, life is all about balance, so you can feel free to treat yourself after all the healthy eating. Try one of Palms L.A.'s new summer happy hour deals. From Monday to Wednesday, there's a deal suited to everyone, including 20 percent off wines by the bottle, RMB 120 cocktail pitchers, and BOGOF Slow Boat Zombie Pirate Pale Ale bottles. On Thursday it's buy-one-get-one-free cocktails and on Friday they run two "power hours" from 5.30-6.30pm and 9-10pm when cocktails, wine by the glass, and selected beers are buy-one-get-one-free. Finally, make space in your calendar for the opening of Beyond Yakitori's terrace this Saturday, May 19. For RMB 199 (or RMB 149 if you RSVP in advance – scan the QR code on the poster above), you'll get free-flow Kirin beer, sake, and, of course, yakitori from 10pm onwards. I've been lucky enough to go to Beyond Yakitori's terrace opening in the past and trust me when I say that it makes for one of the best ways to usher in the summer.
