Yotsuba Expands to the West With Its New Outlet in Zhongguancun

With 14 years and three Beijing locations under its belt, and long-beloved for its authentic cuisine and fine-dining experience, Japanese restaurant Yostuba turns to the west to open a fourth outlet at Raycom Infotech Plaza, Zhongguancun.

The elegant space maintains the same wood-furnished, natural Japanese style of the other three Yotsuba restaurants. The sushi bar is spacious, allowing patrons to watch the sushi master in action, though there are also private rooms for groups. With 55 seats, Yotsuba is also sharing the space with its sub-brand Man Yo, which is less likely to burn a hole in your wallet.

Proud of its wide variety of fresh fish in Beijing, Yotsuba invited us to partake in the parting/slicing ceremony of a 100kg bluefin tuna from Nagasaki, Japan, where more than 20 kinds of fresh fish and other seafood on Yotsuba’s menu are imported. As expected, the tuna and salmon on the sashimi plate were incredibly fresh.

Appetizers included braised tuna, sweet sea snail, and hors d'oeuvres topped with homemade cream. Tuna salad came next with some delicious salmon row on vegetables with tuna cuts. Without having the signature sushi, we sampled the sushi rice, which is similar to poke, followed by a grilled sole. It had a salt shell forming a crispy skin around the tender meat. Even the steamed egg custard came with a generous serving of fish buried at the bottom.

Service continues Yotsuba’s impeccable Japanese style –  the staff makes sure you are always taken care of, from collecting the empty plates to topping up your green tea before you even notice. Yotsuba has had its soft opening, and Man Yo will open in early November. Hand-rolled sushi and sashimi are the signature dishes here and whereas local Zhongguancun workers have the lunch set to look forward to. If you're heading for dinner, you may want to start off with the decently-priced seasonal sets (approximately RMB 200-300).
