Chinese Actress Jing Tian Joins 'Pacific Rim 2'
Chinese actress Jing Tian (景甜) has joined the cast of Legendary’s Pacific Rim sequel.
The 28-year-old Xi’an native and graduate of the Beijing Dance Academy and Beijing Film Academy will star in the kaiju vs. robots blockbuster alongside John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, and Cailee Spaeny.
Filming will take place in November in Australia, and then at the brand new Wanda Qingdao Studio, part of a giant ‘entertainment complex’ in the city of Qingdao.
Jing Tian's starring credits include the Chinese films New Police Story with Jackie Chan and Special ID with Donnie Yen. The actress will also feature in upcoming films Kong: Skull Island and The Great Wall alongside Matt Damon.
There's no word on who Jing would play in Pacific Rim Maelstrom, although she reportedly has a starring role. Boyega will play the son of Idris Elba's character from the original. Steven S. DeKnight will direct.
The film will be released by Universal Pictures on February 23, 2018 in most of the world but it’s still not clear when it will come out in China where it will be handled by Legendary parent company Wanda.
In January, Wanda paid USD 3.5 billion for a controlling stake in Legendary Entertainment, which made Pacific Rim and has been keen to shoot a sequel after the first movie earned RMB 699 million (USD 104.7 million) in China.
