Crib Notes: An Update on Chunxiu Lu Food Court and Culinary Incubator The Crib

We first reported on The Crib, an international and non-traditional food court/culinary incubator/lifestyle space opening in the former Feiteng Yuxiang space on Chunxiu Lu back in May, and boy, have they been busy since then.

Following in the footsteps of other curated food and lifestyle venues such as Lisbon's Time Out MarkettheCOMMONS in Bangkok, and Anthony Bourdain's long-anticipated-but-still-unconfirmed Bourdain Market at Pier 57 in New York, The Crib hopes to bring together some of Beijing's best food and beverage brands under one roof, as well as provide space and support for food entrepreneurs to nourish their businesses.

You may remember back in May we said that The Crib were looking to have room for around 30 vendors/stalls across the two-story space (according to their official materials these will breakdown into 19 stalls for food vendors, three bars, four lifestyle vendors, four pop-up spaces, one organic/craft market, and an open kitchen that will play host to cooking classes and demos). Well, those stalls have been filling up with some very exciting names since then:

  • Handcrafted cheese from Le Fromager de Pekin
  • A healthy South American concept by a former sous chef from Urbane, one of Australia's top restaurants
  • Pirate's Crayfish, a huge delivery operation founded by former Huawei and Baidu executives
  • A new Vietnamese concept from the founders of Elements Club, The Pho Laboratory, and Dongtian Private Kitchen
  • Mr. Shi's Bistro (don't lie, you know you love Mr. Shi's)
  • Beers by Jing-A
  • A "seasonally transformative themed cocktail bar" from Warren Pang (Janes & Hooch), Milan Sekulic, and Chase White (New York)
  • Handicrafts and crafting classes by Shougongke, often described as "China's Etsy"

Now that's a list with pedigree!

The Crib is also currently holding a round of crowdfunding via Chinese investment/crowdfunding platform Duo Cai Tou (多彩投), already surpassing their target of RMB 300,000. There are two days left if you want to invest; visit their project page for more information.

Co-founder Hsu Li says The Crib is currently set to open in the last week of October. We'll share more details about the opening as we get them.
