Shiny, Huge, New Non-Traditional Food Court 'The Crib' Coming to Chunxiulu in August

Those with a keen eye may have noticed that the Feiteng Yuxiang on Chunxiu Lu has been closed, and emptied out. The huge space, half of which is a 1970s factory and half of which consists of extensions built onto this original framework is currently mid-transformation. Following renovations, Feiteng Yuxiang will officially turn into The Crib, an international and non-traditional food court, aiming to open at the end of August.

The Crib is going to be a sort of incubator and food court, with mostly space for food-related stalls, but also a small amount of retail. We spoke to one of the brains behind the idea, Hsu Li, who you may know from The Smokeyard and FatFace Catering.

We took a tour through the site, and although still mid-construction, the set up is awesome, with nooks and crannies, plenty of space, and brick wall remaining from the original factory layout. There's a total of 1,500 meter squares to work with, Li tells us, and The Crib is aiming for 35 stalls to be dotted throughout the site.

There are rumors of talks with Da Dong and their duck burgers, as well as John Ellis with Big Bear Baked Goods, Erica Huang with her Farm to Neighbors farmers' market, and Jing-A. We most certainly approve of all of these vendors being under one large roof.

Mostly though, the point is that food entrepreneurs starting off, or those looking to expand from their first location, to have a location that has two vital aspects taken care of: Firstly, the licensing, space, and initial location-hunting. This can take six to eight months, and will all be sorted for entrepreneurs joining. Secondly, there's the marketing, which The Crib will also inject RMB 1 million into. As an entrepreneur, you thus won't have to worry about any of these things.

And for those of us not working in F&B, the space is going to a bustling non-traditional food court. Walk around the stalls, see what takes your fancy, pay per visit on WeChat or AliPay or get a pay-as-you-go card, and sit in the seating area with friends. You get the deal. It's going to be pretty awesome.
