Drunk Begining May Be Misspelt, But Their 100+ Bottled Beers Get it Right
Drunk Begining* [sic] has moved ... only several meters away from its original storefront.
Why is this noteworthy? Because even such a short repositioning must be hard work given that the bar boasts one of the widest selections of bottled beer in all of Beijing – at last count, over 100 from all over the world. What's even more of a mean feat is fitting such an all-encompassing selection into a mere 20-square-meter space.
Owner Yue Xiaochao is a big fan of Brewdog, a small but innovative craft brewer from Scotland, and he's got 15 variations on sale. He also collects their T-shirts, as well as openers, stickers, mugs, key chains, and caps.
If you're new to Brewdog (and sampling all 15 is beyond your limit), Yue recommends you start with the Punk IPA.
Except for Panda Brew and cans of Master Gao, he doesn’t sell any local microbrew, instead opting for imported bottled craft beers. As Yue explains, “The idea is that Drunk Begining is a bottle shop for the people who love to try great beer from all over the world.”
Popular craft beers such as Stone, Dogfish Head, Founders, and Flying Dog can all be found in this tiny space, as well as rarer specialty beers such as Nøgne Ø. Mikkeller. IPA fans will have a lot to write home about as upon any one visit you'll find at least 20 types from different breweries.
Drunk Begining is a great option for the more adventurous beer guzzlers because they refresh the menu with new imported beers twice every week. If that wasn't incentive enough, all the beers are buy-two-get-one free during happy hour, 6-8pm every day.
*There's only one "n" in Drunk Begining, which implies poor spelling, but hey, after a few brews, what's spelling between drinking buddies?
