Free Coffee for Poetry at the Kempinski to Celebrate World Poetry Day, Mar 21

This Monday, March 21, is World Poetry Day, and in order to celebrate the Kempinski Hotel Beijing Lufthansa Center will be exercising a "Pay with a Poem" policy.

This global initiative, started by Julius Meinl in 1862 in Vienna, links back to the importance of poetry in Viennese coffee house culture. The Julius Meinl coffee company now hopes to encourage people to keep poetry alive, especially in conjunction with coffee houses. If you are budding (and poor) poet this is your chance to shine. Not only will you be rewarded for your efforts, but you'll be able to meet likeminded (and potentially jittery) poets.

Something you probably didn't know, is that World Poetry Day was declared an official day by UNESCO in 1999, and created in order to promote the reading, writing, publishing and the teaching of poetry throughout the world. If there's good, free coffee, we're most certainly onboard.
