Catch the Zamani Collection and Rechenberg Pop-up at Four Seasons Beijing Until Feb 23
Kicking off their third year of pop-up collections held in the lobby, Four Seasons Beijing are welcoming Persian carpet curators Zamani Collection and boutique studio Rechenberg for their first display of 2016.
The pop-up, which will continue from now until February 23, is entitled Pomegranate时榴, since both brands emphasize the use of naturally dyed, hand-spun textiles, and one of the most common dyes for both collections is pomegranate. The hawk-eyed Chinese speakers among you may have noticed that the name 时榴 is actually a play on the name for pomegranate in Chinese, 石榴. They hope that the use of the characters 时 (time) and 榴 (yield) work together to imply the charm, appeal, and effort that has gone into these artisan products.
The collection on display at the Four Seasons will feature a total of 68 Persian rugs, highlighting antique rugs from the Qashqai tribes of Shiraz and the nomads of Shasavan. These are truly gorgeous pieces, works of art really, and Zamani Collection definitely treats them as such. Among the rugs on display are both traditional designs and more modern, geometric designs in bright colors. Contrasting with the weight of the rugs are ethereal pieces by designer Kathrin von Rechenberg, including one-of-a-kind hand-dyed scarves and garments, plus traditional tea silk (xiangyunsha, 香云纱) pieces, an increasingly rare silk production method.
