Kipp's Picks: BEME 4 (Beijing Electronic Music Encounter)

This weekend is all about BEME 4 (Beijing Electronic Music Encounter). Presented to you by Sinotronics, expand your conceptions of music with Beijing’s only festival that focuses on the cross-section of producers, artists, and DJs that pivot between dance music, improv, and un-classifiable sonic creativity. You can expect three nights of original and electronically filtered electronic sounds featuring 20 artists from Beijing and beyond. 
 

Oct 22: Earsnail, Gooooose, Elvis. T, XLF,  Menghan and FAR/∞
Bringing a more alternative program to Beijing’s grimiest and most respected dance-centric club, night one will feature a selection of producers and DJs that traverse back and forth between the outer limits of sound exploration and body movement, inducing waves of mutant dance music. Oct 23: Bob Ostertag, Hong Qile, Liquid Palace
On Friday night, they will be presenting their headlining act Bob Ostertag and his piece Sooner or Later. Bob has been involved in the American experimental music scene since the late seventies and has collaborated with artists like John Zorn and Kronos Quartet, laying down everything from marred synthetics to tape manipulations. Taking place at the intimate setting of fRUITYSHOP in Dongsitoutiao, you will not only be exposed to some extreme heads like Meng Qi who builds his synthesizers from the circuit boards up, but you can also peruse the vast collection rare LPs on site. Oct 24: SHAO (Dead J), Nara, Menghan, MMS, Bob Ostertag w/ Soviet Pop and Vavabond, Alpine Decline and Charm, JFI, me:mo
The finale will be an all night affair featuring live performances and DJ sets from some of the greatest synthesists and laptop wizards in Beijing. If you desire an accurate representation of the diversity in electronic music being produced in the capital, then this night is not to be missed. And Considering that there will be over eight hours of musical programming through the night, you can drop by anytime for a succulent sample of this vibrant collection of artists. RMB 100. 8pm-late.
