EAT: Caravan's Jing-A Takeover, Dine and Design at The Smokeyard

We're mostly focused on pizza here at the Beijinger towers this week  with so many good deals around town, it's hard not to be. If for some reason, cheese and carbs aren't your thing (in which case we're not sure we can be friends ...), there are plenty of other events going on around town.

Tickets are still available for Caravan's Kitchen Takeover at Jing-A Brewing this Thursday (Oct 22). Caravan's proprietor Badr Benjelloun will be cooking up a four-course menu (RMB 100) of rib-sticking Moroccan dishes specially for the event, perfect for seeing out the end of summer. The menu starts off with a bowl of hearty harira (lentil and chickpea soup) and a serving of eggplant salad spiced with Badr's homemade harissa chili sauce. Our favorite course of the menu by far though is the 12-hour slow roast mechoui lamb, served with a reduction of Jing-A's Mandarin Wheat beer and a harissa-spiked yogurt.

Speaking of lamb, we're avowed fans of late night chuan'r but sometimes you just need something that little bit fancier. Thankfully, Rosewood Beijing are here to satisfy both sides of the coin. Head to Rosewood's awesome Chinese restaurant Country Kitchen after 9pm and get 50 percent off all their barbecue menu.

Finally, if you're an arty/design type, you'll want to check out the first Design and Dine event, being held at The Smokeyard this Saturday (Oct 24). The event is hosted by US designer Christian Waters, who has been based in Beijing for a year, and the price (RMB 90 advance, RMB 120 VIP) includes a set menu of The Smokeyard's tasty modern cuisine. Check out the event listing for more details and how to book.
