EAT: Bombana in Town, Modernista Restaurant Soft Opening, Farm to Neighbors in Liangmaqiao

Three Michelin-starred Chef Umberto Bombana is in town for one night only this Saturday, October 17. He will be in the kitchen at Opera Bombana cooking up a very special gala dinner. If you happen to be lucky enough to snag a spot (we suggest you get on the phone pronto), you'll enjoy a five course menu including homemade maccheroni with lobster jus and slow cooked beef tongue and sirlon with Barolo sauce. Of course, all this doesn't come for free; in fact, it comes for RMB 1,808 per person (plus 10 percent service charge).

At the more accessible end of the pricing spectrum, Modernista are finally ready to open their long-promised restaurant. The restaurant, which soft opens this Thursday, October 15, is helmed by a chef who learned his trade under chef Jordi Valles, formerly of Agua in Nali Patio. The menu promises pan-European dishes with a slight lean towards Spanish, such as bacon-wrapped salmon medallions with pesto, peas, and red pepper puree. We'll be back with first impressions later in the week.

This weekend (Oct 17-18), Farm to Neighbors moves out of Gulou (and out of Modernista actually) for a special open-air market at The Grand Summit in Liangmaqiao. As well as the usual vendors offering local organically-grown vegetables, Tibetan yak yogurt, naturally leavened sourdough bread, roasted organic chestnuts from Huairou, and much more, they will be teaming up with Jessica Rapp's THRIFT for a pop-up clothing shop and flea market. There will be different vendors on Saturday and Sunday, so check out their WeChat to make sure you don't miss anything.
