Pizza My Mind: La Pizza, Ramo and Gung Ho Do It for Italian Architect and Lifestlye Blogger
In the runup to the 2015 Pizza Cup (mark your calendars for the launch party on Oct 17-18), we've asked Beijingers to tell us about their favorite pizza places. To launch our Pizza my Mind series we talk to Italian architect and lifestyle blogger Chiara Maria Sassu, 32, who lives in Sanlitun.
A Beijing resident for more than five years, Chiara Maria Sassu hails from Rome. "I'm curious about everything that's around me, and for me eating is one of the ways to explore new places - together with shopping," she says.
Asked of her pizza credentials, she replies, "I'm Italian! Do you need more than that? Jokes aside, pizza is part of my weekly routine. There is no such a thing as Saturday lunch without pizza!"
Here are Chiara's picks for Beijing's best under the following scenarios:
For when you want a taste of home:
"This would definitely be La Pizza in Sanlitun. They serve pizza exactly like you would have it in Naples: rich, soft crust and lots of mozzarella! The service is no frills and the fact that the chef Giuseppe is always there and happy to chat with his guests makes it so much more fun to visit!"
When you feel like something different:
"When I feel like venturing out of Sanlitun, I'm happy to go to Ramo. Quick service, crowded little restaurant in the hutongs and easy environment. I like their pizza with Parma ham and rucola -- healthy and extremely good. I love that you can order pizza by the slice so you can try different types!"
For home delivery when you're too lazy to make dinner:
"This would definitely be Gung Ho Gourmet Pizza Kitchen! Their customer service is amazing and I love the attention they put into small details, like their brand image and the graphics -- this is what really makes them special. I would order the chicken pesto pizza with thick crust and YUM eat it all by myself! Their pizza is different from a traditional Italian one, but it's good, ingredients are first-choice and the delivery guys always have a smile on their faces!"
