Beijing Music Venue Mako Livehouse Closes Permanently

Shuangjing music venue and former the Beijinger awards venue Mako Livehouse has dropped its curtain permanently, announcing the closure via its official Weibo account.

"Thank you for the many years of support and care shown to us by musicians and audience friends, we are pleased to have had so many awesome performances over the years, and helped to give Chinese independent music a boost in its development," the post reads.

Mako joins the list of major music venues that have closed over the past year, beginning with 2 Kolegas in 2014, and joined by XP in July.

"It's a bigger loss than most people realize. Mako was the only venue somewhat central with a great sound system that could handle a mid-size show," said former DAZEfeast organizer Badr Benjelloun.

Mako won the Beijinger Reader Bar and Club Award for Outstanding Shuangjing earlier this year, and hosted both the 2010 the Beijinger Reader Bar and Club Awards and the ceremony's after-party.
