First Glance: Eatalia 798

With very successful restaurants in Wudaokou and Di'anmen already under their belt, the team behind Eatalia have now expanded to 798 Art District. Each of their other restaurants has its own unique character and this new one is no different.

The space makes the most of the industrial leftovers that 798 is known for: think high ceilings, raw brick and filament lights. The main dining area feels modern but not sparse, thanks to some unique artworks designed by the restaurant's owner. Our favorite space is the glassed-in annex off to one side, emboldened with stylish touches like bespoke patchwork bucket chairs and lamps fashioned from old fans.

The food replicates the model they have successfully employed at their other locations: Italian favorites like pizza and pasta at reasonable prices. Straying into the main courses, a plate of grilled New Zealand lamb chops served with zucchini was a surprising hit. They are also working on a revamped drinks menu, from which I really enjoyed an Aperol spritz made with passion fruit and a sprig of rosemary (you can also pick up a glass of Prosecco for the very reasonable price of RMB 39).

My hastily snatched iPhone photos don't really do the space justice, so make sure you pop in and see it for yourself before the crowds get wind of it. They're in soft opening for the moment, with an official opening party happening on September 19
