This Week: Daniel Guevara Takes Over at Grill 79, New Desserts at Migas, and an Organic Market at Conrad Beijing

Now that people are starting to trickle back into town after the summer holidays, there's been a definite uptick in the amount of food events going on.

Migas got in touch this week to let us know about pastry chef Pol Anter's new dessert menu and frankly it was all we could do not to run straight down there and order them all. The incredibly creative pairings include a dessert plate inspired by a forest scene (pictured) of white chocolate, green tea, coconut and raspberry. We'll be going by to try them soon.

The China World Summit Wing's Grill 79 has welcomed new head chef Daniel Guevara. Guevara joins the restaurant after more than 14 years visiting and working in Michelin-starred kitchen around the world. This Michelin experience shows in creative dishes like "hot and cold potato", a hot potato foam accompanied by a sweet potato kashmir curry ice cream, and a dessert featuring slices of caramelized avocado. They are currently serving a five course tasting menu (RMB 568) of his best dishes, some of which will eventually make it on to the main menu. Read more in my interview with Guevara in our upcoming October issue.

The Conrad Hotel is hosting an organic farmer's market this Saturday September 13, 11.30am-4pm. There will be a selection of organic vegetables for sale - either take them home or hand them to chefs to cook on the terrace at Vivid.

Obentos is sponsoring the Beijing International Triathalon this September 13 and 14. They will be supplying their signature brand of tasty, healthy food to all those who cross the finish line (no matter how quick, or how slow).
