Community Matters: Ink Not Mink, PETA Asia's Sexy New Ad Campaign

Queue the disco, disrobe, and behold: the beautiful Wang Ke shows off some skin so that our furry little friends don't have to lose theirs. This past Monday at the DMD Photo Studio in Wangjing SOHO, tattoo artist Wang Ke posed in the buff, holding only a sign that read "Ink, Not Mink. (in Chinese:) Be Proud of Your Own Skin, Don't Wear Fur." For PETA Asia's first "Ink Not Mink" campaign, the organization was hoping to draw awareness to the cruelty of the fur industry by using one of China's most famous tattoo artists and her award-winning inked canvas. China is currently the world's largest producer and consumer of animal fur in the world, and the cruelty involved in this industry can't be ignored.

This campaign began in the United States using celebrities like Dave Navarro, Dennis Rodman and Chad Ochocinco in order to inform people of the brutality animals suffer in fur farms throughout the world. Though this is the first time it has been done in Asia, it's probably slim pickings to find a tattooed, vegan celebrity that is willing to go all the way in China. So let's show Wang Ke some love for stepping up and getting involved in this racy anti-fur ad.

In other news, coming up this week at Atelier Arts (Jan 11-12), Sir Alice will be giving a workshop on the craft of songwriting. She will discuss the basics of rhythm, phonetics, and how to shape your songs. If you are serious about wanting to write songs, this two day course will provide a valuable foundation to the process of songwriting and impart some valuable wisdom from her vast experience in the industry. It lasts from 10am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday with a one hour break for lunch.
